- <p> DIED. Gene Roddenberry, 70, visionary television producer
- and creator of Star Trek; of a heart attack; in Los Angeles. A
- former airline pilot and L.A. motorcycle cop, he turned to
- writing, creating episodes for Dragnet and Have Gun Will Travel.
- His Star Trek series (1966-69) imagined a future of
- intergalactic travel and utopian possibility that spawned
- millions of passionately devoted fans--"Trekkies"--and six
- motion pictures. Said Roddenberry: "Treating the TV audience
